Cree Village Eco Lodge is located in Moose Factory, Ontario, Canada. Moose Factory is an island community nestled between the Moose River and where the Moose River meets the ocean waters of James Bay. The Cree people of the Hudson Bay watershed have lived here for millennia.
The Cree Village Eco Lodge opened its doors to the public in July 2000, not without years of making sure this project reflected the “cultural values and ethic of the Eeyou Nation,” (Eeyou being our Cree word for person).
Cree Village features sites and buildings that date back to the 17th century fur trade. Cree village is a doorway to the lands and waters of Southern James Bay and to the historic community of Moose Factory. Cree Village is a place to gather, giving our guests to have a place for sharing and understanding.
Cree Eco Lodge offers accommodation services in its 20-room facility that features 17 Deluxe Rooms, one of which is an Author’s Suite, one a Conference Suite, and another that is a Jacuzzi Suite.
The main architectural feature of the Eco Lodge is the Great Hall. This is the lodge’s main gathering place and it is modeled on a traditional Cree dwelling called a “Shaapuhtuwaan,” which literally translates to “long teepee with doors at each end.”
